Somebody configured the system LDAP as inactive. I came to LDAP system configuration and started the synchronization and green window occurred with "synchronization started and currently running". Which in fact is not true, because the synchronization was only planned as asynchronous long running task and would not be running, ever.
If I were normal admin, I would be really confused and try to find something in synchronization log - which in fact I really did :-) before I asked Vitek for help.
Possible solutions: better texting in info box, add info to synchronization log, websockets...
